Depakote is available as 250mg and 500mg tablets. This medication contains contains an active ingredient called semisodium valproate. This belongs to a group of medications called mood stabilizers. It works by stabilizing the levels of chemicals in the brain that affect mood.

It can be used to treat or control mania (feeling of being very excited, enthusiastic, very active and easily irritated or distracted) caused by bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is where the mood changes between feeling very high (mania) and very low (depression).

This medication can be used when lithium cannot be used.

PRECAUTIONS:
